Please help us find our missing trophies!

An appeal has been issued by the Constables of the Vale for the safe return of 16 missing trophies that were originally awarded when the North Regatta was a major island event.

Organisers became aware of the loss after they arranged for the trophies to be given to the Vale and St Sampson's Douzaines for safekeeping after the regatta ceased in the 2000s, when the marina was created in St Sampson's Harbour.

Around 40 people attended a formal hand-over of the remaining silverware at the Vale Douzaine last week, indicating how fondly remembered the event is, and the douzaines were pleased to be able to help record part of the island's heritage.

The picture above shows some of the trophies on display in the Committee Room at the Vale Douzaine while others are on show at St Sampson's Douzaine at Le Murier.

More details about the regatta can be found here. Meanwhile, members of the North Regatta Association have done a great job collating all the trophies that were awarded over the years and the names of those who won them going back to the 1920s.

It's a vivid reminder of the island's rich maritime heritage and the organisers and douzaines are asking anyone who may have been involved to please check cupboards and display cases in case they have one of these irreplaceable items.

"We would ask everyone who might have one to please look very, very carefully because we're really keen to try to preserve all these reminders of a chapter of island life," said Vale Senior Constable John Niles.

  • Anyone who has one of the missing items is asked if they can return it to either of the Douzaine offices during normal opening hours – The Vale Constables’ Office is located at Maraitaine Road, and its opening hours are: Monday - Friday 10.00 - 13.00. The St Sampson's Constables' office is located at La Chambre de la Douzaine, Le Murier, and its opening hours are Mon - Fri 9am - 12.30pm.
