"For what was created on an impulse, I’m amazed at how many people have signed it," petition creator Jane Dilcock told the Guernsey Press.
She and Fran Torode have been campaigning to halt the planned closure because it will affect islanders with mobility issues – the remaining branches are in Town or St Martin's.
The Bridge branch is due to shut for good this September, with HSBC claiming that fewer people were using banks because they had the option of online and mobile banking.
Campaigners were delighted that their petition has gained 887 signatures, since other islanders would have supported it but were customers of other banks and so felt unable to do so.
