The reminder has come from the Vale Commons Council, which is responsible for the area, and its president, Vale douzenier André Quevâtre, has said that any that are left there from February 1 will be moved at the owner's expense.
This is so the area can be resurfaced and parking spaces outlined, including some accessible bays for blue badge holders. The work is necessary so that the car park can become a controlled, 10-hour disc zone, to police a growing problem with vehicles being abandoned there.
Significance
"Although it's a car park, it's part of a site of special significance which makes up the Common. We have a lot of people who want to visit the beach or walk their dogs on the common who can't find anywhere to park when they visit because of the cars that have just been left here," he told the Guernsey Press.
The changes are similar to those introduced at the Vale Church car park, which have worked very well.
Under the new arrangements, the council will retain an area for nearby residents, with unlimited parking for up to five vehicles, while L'Ancresse Motors, the garage based next to the car park, will have seven designated spaces.
The changes, which are funded by the Vale Commons Council, should make the car park more available for users of the common, Ladies' Bay and the play area at Les Amarreurs.
