Reminder: 400 Vale dog owners have still to tax their pets

Thu 06 Feb 2025

More than 400 Vale pet owners have yet to renew their dog tax and are already more than a week late in doing so, the office said today.

Bow, the French Bulldog, available at the GSPCA now*

The reminder comes after rather more than half the parish's registered dogs – 500 or so – have had their licence renewed for 2025, but many more have yet to do so.

The last official date to be properly registered is 31 January and is due in respect of all dogs, with the exemption of assistance dogs. Payments of £10 per animal can be made in person during office hours at the Vale Douzaine [Monday - Friday 10.00 - 13.0] by cash, cheque (made payable to Constables of the Vale) or card; by post, enclosing a stamped addressed envelope, or by phone using a debit or credit card (with a small charge to cover postage as we have to send the licence to you).

Every dog owner must have their animal licensed from six months old and failure to do so means the owner can be reported to Guernsey Police and fined.

Because the deadline has now expired, the quickest and easiest way is to call the office on 01481 244155 between Monday - Friday 10.00 - 13.00 so payment can be taken over the phone and the licence emailed to you.

  • * According to the GSPCA Bow [pictured above] is a gorgeous five-year-old French Bulldog with a heart full of love to give. "This sweet girl adores cuddles and is happiest when she’s snuggled up by your side. Bow is not great with cats so cannot go to a household with cats, Bow would prefer to be the only dog as she is not great with all dogs and she deserves to be spoilt. Bow has some specific care needs due to allergies—she’s allergic to most proteins and requires a special diet to keep her healthy. In addition, she needs regular bathing and ongoing medication to manage her condition." More information is available here
