Easy guide released on how to manage your affairs in later life

Wed 13 Nov 2024

A guide to help Vale parishioners with their long term personal and financial planning has been released by the States in an easy-to-read format following recent legal changes in this complex and sensitive area.

It has been prepared by the Committee for Employment & Social Security's disability officer in conjunction with Health and Social Care to provide an easy-read document about Lasting Power of Attorney.

It follows two pieces of legislation coming into effect in 2022 which enable people to nominate a trusted person (or people) will be able to appropriately manage their affairs during any loss of capacity they may experience, perhaps in later life.

The The Capacity (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law, 2020 and The Capacity (Lasting Powers of Attorney) (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Ordinance, 2022 have been welcomed by lawyers as providing a simpler, quicker and cheaper way for people to nominate someone to look after their affairs should that become necessary.

It is still, nevertheless, a complicated subject, which is the easy-read guide has been prepared, and which bis available to download below.
