Hougue Jehannet can be closed, says court

Mon 13 Nov 2023

Hougue Jehannet, the road running through the Vale power station, should be closed permanently, the Royal Court has decided.

Its ruling, by a 5-3 majority of the Jurats, followed a contested application by Guernsey Electricity Ltd to make permanent the "temporary" closure that was introduced a couple of years ago on security grounds.

Many parishioners objected to the proposed move, which was not supported by the douzaine, and three people appeared in court to speak against closure.

After retiring to consider their decision, however, the Jurats decided that the case for closure had been made and Hougue Jehannet will cease to be a public thoroughfare.
