Here or evacuated during the war? See if you qualify for a free Liberation Day hamper!

Mon 27 Apr 2026

Older Vale parishioners who remained in the island or who were evacuated during the Occupation are being reminded that they have just a few days left in which to try to claim a free commemorative Liberation Day hamper.

In all, 500 hampers will be gifted to those who remained in Guernsey during the Occupation, or who were evacuated or deported during the Second World War.

The deadline for registration is Thursday 30 April and anyone who may qualify or anyone who knows someone who might do so is asked to check eligibility through this online link  or by emailing [email protected] or by calling 01481 223552 between 9am - 11.30am and 2pm - 5pm, Monday to Friday up to Thursday 30 April 2026.

The hampers are available thanks to the generous support of the St Peter Port Constables and each one contains Guernsey gâche, scone, orange cake, tea and jam with butter, milk and cream donated by Guernsey Dairy and fruit donated by the Co-Op.

Introduced in 2023 as part of Liberation Day's commemorative programme, the initiative is now an important part of the Liberation Day celebrations, recognising those who experienced the war and a link with the parishes who support it.

Please note, when collecting the hampers, individuals, carers or family members are asked to bring a form of identification for themselves and the recipient, such as a passport or driving license.
