Parish meeting: an update

Mon 23 Mar 2020

As the coronavirus crisis develops it is clear that the parish meeting scheduled for 1 April cannot now go ahead, which potentially creates problems because ratepayers need to approve the parochial budget and fund raising for 2020.

Senior Constable Richard Leale said that in line with public health advice, there was no alternative to postponing the meeting and, along with other parishes, was in discussion with the island authorities about how best to resolve the funding issues that would cause.

"While the Law Officers look at another way of approving the remède we have already published the meeting agenda, the amounts we need to raise and the audited parish accounts," he said.

Comments invited
The Rector and Churchwardens had also published their agenda and accounts so he was inviting comments in writing so that the douzaine can consider elector and ratepayer feedback in case the douzaine is required to authorise the remède in the absence of a public meeting.

These are needed by March 30th.

Separately, the Constables are aiming to maintain office hours at the current 10am - 1pm, although this will be kept under review. Meanwhile, parishioners who need to contact us are asked to consider whether they can do so by email or phone rather than calling in person.
