This follows issues with people leaving out materials that cannot currently be handled by Guernsey Waste and contractors have been asked to leave the bags behind with an explanatory note on them (see the downloads section below).
This says, "sorry, we were unable to collect your recycling because it contained the wrong materials or was out on the wrong night."
If it wasn't the wrong night, the bags were likely refused because they contained some of the following:
Vale refuse contractor Clint Blondel, who services other parishes as well, will be actively stickering non-compliant bags from this week as part of a trial period to encourage people to use the recycling service properly.
The problem is particularly acute with blue bags, for cans, cartons and plastics, which are also being used for items that cannot yet be recycled and should go out for black sack residual waste collection.
The problem materials are:
– carrier bags
– bread bags
– bubble wrap
– polythene
– cling film
– polystyrene
– crisp packets
– pet/baby food pouches
– coal sacks
– tablet blister packs
– plastic toys
– paint pots
– black plastic
– kitchen paper & tissues
The advice to anyone whose recycling has been stickered in this way is to remove the "wrong" items and then either put your bag out again on the next collection night, or take it to the Household Waste & Recycling Centre at Longue Hougue.
That's open from 8am - 4pm Monday to Saturday (closed Thursdays and bank holidays) and 8am - 12pm on Sundays.
