Times are now based on the solar calendar, which means they automatically respond to sunset and sunrise times and provide light when it's needed.
Guernsey Electricity told the Vale Douzaine that it was responding to concerns raised by people in the parish and elsewhere in the island that they wanted to see longer "on" times as a safety issue for early users of the roads and lanes.
"Being set to a solar calendar will provide light when needed and will gradually adjust as the season changes to British Summer Time," a spokesman told the office.
"As the rollout progresses, we are changing all the luminaires [a complete electric light unit] to LED lights, which are 3K specification (warm white) and environmentally friendly," he added.
There has been some feedback that the longer "on" periods might affect householders, especially where the lights can been seen from bedrooms etc, and Guernsey Electricity is aware of that.
"We can address any problem lighting with a 3K luminaire and a guard to minimise any back-glare from the streetlight," the utility stated. However, for safety reasons, the lights needed to remain on from dusk until dawn.
