The initiative forms part of the company’s broader transformation programme to ensure its postal services remain efficient, sustainable and fit for the future and it is asking islanders for comments on its proposals.
Under the plans, 96 of the island’s 141 roadside post boxes are being considered for closure, with 42 retained and a further three relocated to better serve local communities. Usage data shows that more than two-thirds of the boxes identified for potential closure receive an average of only five or less items per day, while the remainder typically handle no more than 10, Guernsey Post said.
"These figures highlight a significant shift in how islanders use postal services and help inform the approach to shaping a more efficient and sustainable postal network," it said in a statement.
The Guernsey Press today said that 10 Vale boxes could close (see box). Two post boxes would be kept on the Bridge – one on North Side and one on the southern side of the Bridge, but a third on the Bridge itself is earmarked to close.
However, Post's own interactive map, above, indicates that eight boxes are earmarked for closure, with a ninth shown in St Sampson's.
Details of Post's plans can be found here and an online consultation form is available here.
The consultation process runs until Friday 12th September and anyone in the parish with views on the proposed closures is encouraged to have their say on them.
