New filter to improve road safety in the Vale

Wed 11 Feb 2026

The Vale is to get a new traffic filter to help improve road safety at one of the north’s most difficult junctions.

To improve safety for all road users in the area, and as part of ongoing improvements to Guernsey's road transport infrastructure, a filter at the junction between Barras Lane, Pleinheaume Road, and Pleinheaume Lane in the Vale is to be installed.

This follows feedback from the community regarding limited visibility for road users exiting Les Barras Lane and Pleinheaume Lane, as well as reported road traffic collisions and near misses at the junction, and the high volume of traffic visiting local businesses in the area.

Works
These works will be carried out between Thursday 12th and Friday 13th February, during which the sections of roads leading into the junction will need to be closed to all motorised vehicles. Those who are cycling will still be able to pass through the works if done with care and observing dismount signs.

A spokesman said: "This latest filter installation is part of Traffic & Highways' commitment to improving not only the island's general transport infrastructure, but, crucially, to improve safety for the whole community – in line with the Integrated Transport Strategy.

"Filters, where appropriate, can be an excellent way to improve traffic flow within a busy junction, and this new installation will improve safety for all road users of the area, with the aim of reducing further chances of accidents and near misses."
