Volunteers needed for island-wide voting referendum

Thu 06 Sep 2018

The Vale parish is looking for volunteers - and for a very special event. They are needed to assist parishioners vote in the forthcoming multi-option referendum on the method of electing People's Deputies to the States of Deliberation.

The referendum will be held on Wednesday 10th October, 2018, and the volunteers are needed to help staff the voting station in shifts at the Douzaine Room.

In all, the poll will open from 8am until 8pm but anyone offering to help will be asked to put in a two-hour stint at a time of their choosing - and tea and coffee and biscuits will be provided!

Anyone who could help or who is interested in finding out more about the process is asked to ring the Douzaine Room on 244155 during its opening hours of: Monday - Friday 10am until 1pm.

Why help is needed...
In June 2017, the States agreed to hold a multi-option referendum on the method of electing People's Deputies to the States of Deliberation.

The referendum will be held on Wednesday 10th October when voters will be asked to rank one or more of the five options according to their preference for how People's Deputies will be elected in the future.

More information on the referendum and the available options is available here but the States of Guernsey summarises them as follows:
