Traffic issues raised at Vale Douzaine surgery

The latest surgery was held at the Vale Douzaine Room on Saturday and was hosted by douzenier Julie Creed. Although a comparatively small number of parishioners attended, a wide range of issues were raised and discussed.

They were specifically parochial in nature and indicated that Vale residents appreciated the ability to raise local problems directly with the douzaine.

Among the topics were broken glass apparently left where the bin men have been in a specific spot at the end of Folie Lane where it meets Route Militaire. The suggestion was that this has been happening regularly for two years and residents wondered whether action could be taken to resolve this nuisance.

Parking
Traffic also prompted a lot of discussion with concerns raised about Route des Coutures (pictured above), leading to the Vale School from the Bridge. Parishioners said chaos was being caused by parking on the left hand side of the road heading south and this was being made worse by road diversions and, particularly, at school pickup time.

Also relating to schools, there were complaints about the poor traffic signage around La Mare de Carteret related to when the road is closed at school arrival and departure times.

Some concerns were also raised about the possible problem for emergency vehicles being caused by cars parked in Les Sept Etoiles, off La Moye Road, as many more domestic vehicles appeared to be left there, especially overnight.

While discussing traffic and transport, those attending raised the proposed Bridge improvements announced by the Guernsey Development Agency and any loss of parking as a result.

Hedges
Parishioners noted that some hedges had not cut since the June inspections, although the deadline for property owners to do so is the 30th of this month, with inspections taking place immediately afterwards.

So called "scruffy verges" – roadsides not being cleaned by the States as they used to be – were also discussed but those present were not in favour of the parish taking on the task and residents having to pay more for cleaning the verges.

On a final note, those present expressed concerns about monthly parish meetings not continuing. This is to be discussed by the douzaine and a further announcement made about them.
