Christmas 'bin night' dates announced

Mon 16 Dec 2024

Details of changes to the usual "bin night" arrangements over Christmas and the New Year have been released and are as follows:

Tuesday 24 December set out – set out on night of Sunday 22 December for Monday morning collection. Blue bags please for plastics, cans and cartons, the "glass bag" for bottles and jars, and your food caddy.

Wednesday 25 December set out – set out on night of Friday 27 December for Saturday morning collection. Blue bags please for plastics, cans and cartons, the "glass bag" for bottles and jars, and your food caddy.

Tuesday 31 December set out – set out on night of Sunday 29 December for Monday morning collection. Black sack residual waste please plus white/clear bags for paper and cardboard and your food caddy.

Please note that these arrangements refer to the night you set out your bins etc for collection the following day. This means the Monday night/Tuesday morning collection on the 23rd is unchanged as is the Monday night/Tuesday morning collection on the 30th.

Recycling wrapping paper
When you are buying wrapping paper, please remember that paper embellished with foil or glitter cannot be recycled and instead must to go to landfill.

With this in mind, Recycling for Guernsey recommends choose a wrapping paper without any extra materials so that it can easily be recycled in your clear bag.

Kraft wrapping paper (the thicker, heavier kind which looks a bit like brown paper on the reverse) must be recycled with cardboard – so this can also go in your clear bag or in the cardboard bring bank.

Please share this with your friends so they know too – and let’s have a waste free Christmas
