The best way to facilitate house building in the Bridge and Lowlands areas is by creating flood defences across the mouth of St Sampson's harbour, the Vale's Senior Constable has said.

Periodically cutting back gorse on L'Ancresse Common is an essential part of managing the area and maintaining its biodiversity, the Vale Commons Council (VCC) has said. It issued the update in response to some concerns expressed over the latest trimming, which is visible from Les Clotures Road.

Parishioners have have seen this headline in the Guernsey Press earlier this week following a presentation by the Guernsey Development Agency and wondered whether the Vale Douzaine was aware of the vision being outlined for the Bridge area since the survey informing it is still in progress.

Some Vale history was made this week when Guernsey's Lt-Governor, Lieutenant General Richard Cripwell, invited island douzeniers to a Christmas Reception at Government House. Among those attending was Dean of the Vale Douzaine Rosemary Henry – who took a sword with her at his request for the occasion.

Vale parishioners are being encouraged to complete a survey that will help inform new proposals about how the whole Bridge area could be improved – from road signage to housing development or new marinas.

Following a deferred election to elect four douzeniers to the Vale Douzaine, the votes have been counted and the results declared. They are as follows:

The Vale parish is holding an election for four douzeniers tomorrow, Wednesday the 15th. There are six candidates and if you live in the Vale and are on the electoral roll, you need to go to the polling station at the Vale Douzaine Room between 8am and 8pm to vote.

Hougue Jehannet, the road running through the Vale power station, should be closed permanently, the Royal Court has decided.

Changes are needed to the way deferred elections for douzeniers can be requested at parish meetings, Vale Senior Constable Richard Leale has said. He is now pressing the authorities to consider amending the law on this.

Guernsey's Royal Court is expected to hear on Monday an application to close permanently Hougue Jehannet, the road behind the Vale Power Station. This follows court papers being presented yesterday.
