A field in the Vale has been saved from development thanks to the generosity of a resident who has donated it to the National Trust in memory of her late husband.

Seven new areas of biodiversity importance have been identified in the north of the island and are among a total of 56 sites which planners are assessing for designation. The top two are the old Bordeaux Quarry landfill site and Creve Coeur at Chouet, which was also formerly used as a rubbish tip.

A new Rector for the Vale Parish Church has been appointed and was formally installed at a special service at the Church last night. Lt-Governor Richard Cripwell presented her to the Dean of Guernsey, the Very Rev Tim Barker, for institution and induction as Rector of St Michel du Valle.

Tribute has been paid to two parish stalwarts who between them have contributed more than 60 years' service to the community through the Vale Parochial Cemetery Committee. New committee president Denise Cohu said that the service provided by former Treasurer/Secretary Brian de Jersey and committee member Ken Carre had been truly outstanding and parishioners owed them a debt of gratitude.

Leale's Yard development of more than 300 homes, a new Co-op food store, other retail space, a multi-storey car park and various civic and green areas will go ahead although the project has fallen behind schedule, owners the Co-op and its builders have said.
