It's that time of year again when hedges and douits (streams) across the island have to be cut and cleaned and then inspected by the various douzaines.

Vale Senior Constable Richard Leale has reacted to the news that the Co-op believes it is now 'commercial suicide' to go ahead with developing the land it owns at the Bridge.

In case you missed it, the long awaited redevelopment of a key northern area is unlikely to go ahead anytime soon, it has been confirmed by BBC Radio Guernsey.

We were pleased with the response we had to the redesigned website and, especially, the Vale Church photo on the home page here as it gives a very rural 'feel' to the scene.

Responding to some parishioner concerns over the weekend, we posted this on our Vale Facebook site on Saturday morning:

One of the aims of the parish's new-look website is to build a gallery of images of the parish, showing it at its best. Our gallery section has a number of scenic shots and Douzenier Terry Ashworth has added a beautiful sunrise he captured at Bordeaux. 

Improving the safety and appearance of Vale Avenue has got off to a good start with Guernsey Electricity having demolished part of the terrace of homes there that have stood derelict for a number of years.

New warning signs have been installed at Bordeaux Harbour as part of the parish's ongoing programme of improvements and enhancements.

In case you missed it, the popular kiosk at L’Ancresse East has reopened for the summer, and will be there seven days a week until 30 September – although new tenant Sandy Brassell would like to continue next year depending on what happens to the anti-tank wall project in the meantime, given the strength of opposition to its removal.

A significant pre-summer clear-up at Rousse has just been completed on behalf of the Vale Parish.
